Dal peethi is an authentic complete meal from Bihar ,Jharkhand region.It is basically flowery shape wheat dumpling simmered in a lentil based soup. Though its very simple to make but tastes awesome when served hot . Serve dal peethi along with raita and salad for a weekday meal.

200gChana dal
1cupWheat flour (Atta)
1tspAjwain
⅓tspHing
Salt to taste
Water as per required
For Tempering
2Medium onions ,chopped
1tbspGarlic Crushed
½tspGinger crushed
½tspGreen chili crushed
1tspCumin seeds
2tspKitchen king masala
½tspRed chili powder
4Clove (long)
1Bay leaf
½tspHing
2tbspOil
Coriander leaves finely chopped for garnish
1tbspGhee ,as per required

Dry- Roast the wheat flour in a pan (without any oil oi ghee) on medium flam keep aside for cooling for 5 minutes

Take a bowl add hing, ajwain, salt and Wheat flour mix well

Knead the wheat flour and make a smooth dough

Make small balls (bit smaller then a size of cherry tomato) and roll the balls into thin round shapes with the help of rolling pin

Fold from half to form a dumpling or a flower shape dimsums

If you like another shape then make it

Similarly ,make all the dough and keep them aside

In a pressure cooker, add chana dal , turmeric powder, salt and water , bring them to a boil it just like dal

Put on the cooker lid after 5 to 6 whistles , remove it in the large pot

Add water as per required and add the prepared dough dumplings , let them boil for 15 to 20 minutes ,turn off the gas keep stirring the mixture throughout cooking

Prepare the tempering, heat the oil add cumin seeds , hing ,clove and bay leaf let them pop

Then add chopped onion saute for light brown then add all the ingredients mentioned under for tempering mix well

Saute for few minutes and let it golden brown

Finally pour the tempering over cooked dal pithi

Dal pithi is now almost ready add ghee

Garnish it with coriander leaves

Serve it hot dal pithi with any salad
